The hotel location is pretty good between SOHO and Little Italy. Nearby is the Mondrian and also the Holiday Inn. I scored a BRG with the HI over Christmas. That hotel has a few more amenities than the GEM including a bookable breakfast included rate.
Lots going on in SOHO if that is your thing. The Mondrian has quite a club, the entrance open late night off of Lafayette. Some great irish pubs nearby. Puck Fair is up Lafayette just south of Houston and has great burgers and $7 pints.
GEM hotel BRGs are fairly easy to find. I also scored one at the Distrikt Hotel a few days before Christmas. Good location if you want to be near Times Square. Some awesome bars and restaurants over on 9th Avenue just down the street.
